Registered Outreach Instructor (ROI) Program

CEDIA’s Registered Outreach Instructor (ROI) program allows CEDIA members* to provide education to their local design and build professionals. The "Train the Trainer" course covers all elements relative to the delivery of quality presentations and highlights CEDIA Industry Outreach curriculum. CEDIA members who attend and pass the ROI "Train the Trainer" class can present CEDIA-developed courseware to industry partners within their geographic regions; additionally, AIA and AIBD members who attend ROI-administered classes receive continuing education credits. This grassroots member benefit will impact the member's ability to develop new business relationships without the cost of course development or submission for approval through partner associations.

*This benefit is not available to provisional ESC members.

The mission statement of the program, "To raise awareness of our industry and CEDIA within residential building channels by empowering our members to deliver a consistent message through relevant high quality education while upholding the highest standards" was crafted by the ROI Program Action Team, staffed by individuals diligently working to review, evaluate and improve current ROI standards.

With the help of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and the ROI Action Team, the Industry Outreach department is in the process of developing eight additional courses before year-end 2008. All of the courses in development will be vetted through the submission process with our design and build partner associations for continuing education credits consideration.

CEDIA's Industry Outreach department and the ROI Program Action Team have been working to implement new initiatives within the ROI program, which include a quarterly ROI Newsletter, marketing pieces and updated instructor and program metrics.

Courses Available:

Building Quiet Environments - In today’s hectic and fast-paced world, homeowners need and want a space that is peaceful and tranquil—a quiet environment where they can relax and enjoy their home without noisy interruptions. The Building Quiet Environments course outlines the fundamentals of sound control and gives examples of noise pollution affecting today’s society. Participants will discuss key principles related to sound isolation and the “why, what, and how” components associated with controlling sound. Construction materials and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing considerations will also be discussed, while the participant is guided through the step-by-step process of building a specialty room. Attendees will learn how to locate an Electronic Systems Contractor (ESC) and, specifically, what questions to ask when partnering with an ESC.

Home Integration for Convenience, Comfort, and Safety - This newly-revised course highlights the benefits of home automation and systems integration. Elements such as security, lighting, temperature control, communications, and entertainment are included in this course, along with discussion of commonly held misconceptions related to home automation and systems integration. Attendees will take away such vital information as identifying talking points to use with clients and how to locate an Electronic Systems Contractor (ESC) technology partner, while learning more effective ways to incorporate technology into their design and build projects.

Structured Wiring for the Integrated Home - What is structured wiring and why is it so important in today’s modern, integrated home? These questions, and many others, will be answered during the Structured Wiring for the Integrated Home course. Participants will walk away with the ability to define structured wiring, explain why structured wiring is needed, and discuss technologies that use structured wiring infrastructure. Additionally, attendees will learn about the key components of a structured wiring system and what key discussion points and questions to address when engaging the partnership of an Electronic Systems Contractor (ESC) in the design and build process.
