The idea of replicating a client’s cherished home theater in a new building seems as if it should be simple — unless the new theater is in a different location in the home. Acoustic isolation became a necessity for this project, which includes a central display driven by a 4K projector and two flanking HDTV screens.
The room’s total footprint is fairly diminutive, especially given the nature of the main display, so a custom mirrored rear rack was used in the projection room. The bulk of the gear resides in a separate mechanical room 30 feet away.
The theater is integrated into the home’s control system, and HVAC, lighting, motorized drapes, and all AV functions are controlled with a Crestron portable touch panel. One-touch controls include an “intermission” button that pauses a film, raises the “house lights,” and turns on lights in the adjacent alcove and bathroom.
