PROJECT BUDGET
Over 200K

Here’s a measure of success: At the outset of this project, the homeowner wondered if he’d be able to actually use his home theater — given his demanding job, would the investment be worth it?

Shortly after completion, the customer was quoted in an industry publication saying that he makes time in his life to watch movies in his cinema — he’s a “converted cinemaphile.”

Datasat amps and EQ drive the sound, delivered in part through JL Audio subwoofers and M&K speakers. A Sony VPL-WV520ES projector fills the 160” microperforated screen that features a Cinemascope aspect ratio. The film experience is further complemented with a physical element: The seating includes four-way D-BOX motion effects to give the viewer a truly immersive experience that syncs with the film.

The theater — part of a new wing of an existing home — includes a completely hidden speaker array tucked behind a fabric exoskeleton. Finishing touches include custom lighting and custom acoustic doors with the word “CINEMA” carved into the veneer. The project – by Australia’s Electronic Living – was a Finalist in the 2016 CEDIA Awards (Best Home Theater, Asia Pacific).
