This whole-home project in a new home was created by ZIO Group, LLC, for a very discerning client — the customer had been in the construction industry for three decades and was heavily involved in the design process, right down to producing his own CAD drawings. The client’s primary concerns: finding intuitive controls and installing a state-of-the-art lighting system.
A Savant control system was the solution to the first issue. The client’s fond of his Apple devices, and he may use an iPhone, iPad, or handheld remote to control all the home’s integrated electronics: entertainment, whole-house distributed audio, lighting, window treatments, fire features, and control of his pool systems.
A Lutron Homeworks QS system provides centralized control for 64 dfferent areas of lighting, and window treatments in the master bedroom are automated as well. The lighting and shading controls are all accessible from a single keypad to create any desired lighting scene. A gas fireplace in the den of the home and a pool fire feature are also controlled remotely, as are the pool’s lighting and water.
The equipment room needed to be exceptionally quiet, since the home is in a very tranquil setting. The size of that room created soundproofing and cooling challenges, so high-efficiency amps, quiet cooling fans, specific PoE (Power Over Ethernet) network switches, and a thermostatically controlled ventilation fan were utilized.
The integration also included an Elk M1 alarm system, with sensors on all the home’s doors and windows plus detectors for motion, heat, smoke, and glass breakage. The entire home is networked with three Wi-Fi access points and a high-speed router. A third-part service provides notification for any connectivity loss.
